Pop star Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a five-year restraining order against a man who repeatedly attempted to enter her Los Angeles home, a judge ruled Wednesday.
The order comes after authorities reported more than a dozen incidents in which the man allegedly tried to access the singer’s residence, prompting heightened security concerns and a formal court intervention.
Repeated Trespassing Attempts Prompt Legal Action
Court records and testimony presented in Los Angeles indicate that the man, identified as William Applegate, 31, attempted to reach Carpenter’s home multiple times over recent weeks. In one incident, he allegedly made it to the front door after entering through a neighboring property and was detained following an altercation with a security guard.
A temporary restraining order had already been issued in late May before the court extended protections for five years.
Court Hears Claims of Delusional Beliefs
During the hearing, Applegate reportedly claimed that he and Carpenter were part of a classified military program and asserted they were required to be together for what he described as “national and global security.” He also insisted Carpenter had communicated with him, claims the singer firmly denied in her legal filing.
Carpenter stated in court documents that she had never met or communicated with Applegate and described him as a stranger whose actions made her fear for her safety and that of her family.
Judge Orders Strict Distance and Communication Ban
The judge ordered Applegate to stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her family members, and her residence. The restraining order also prohibits any form of communication or contact and bars him from possessing firearms.
During the hearing, the court emphasized the importance of complying with legal restrictions rather than acting on personal beliefs or perceived messages.
Criminal Investigation Still Ongoing
While Applegate has been the subject of a criminal investigation, no formal charges have been filed as of now, according to court records.
Authorities have not disclosed further details about potential next steps in the investigation.
