Actor Nathan Chasing Horse, known for his role in the Oscar-winning film Dances With Wolves, has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual assault charges involving Indigenous women and girls.
A Nevada court handed down the sentence on Monday, following a jury’s decision earlier this year that found the 49-year-old guilty on 13 counts, most tied to the abuse of three victims. Under the ruling, he will be eligible for parole after serving 37 years.

During the sentencing hearing, survivors and their families addressed the court, describing the long-term emotional and psychological damage caused by the abuse.
